In 1792 Col. Aaron Hobart deeded 2000 acres of land to his son Isaac, who came to the township in May of that year. and immediately built not only a sawmill but also a grist mill on Hobart Stream. Indian corn and rye were brought from Lubec, Trescott, Whiting and Pembroke to be ground in Hobart's gristmill which continued in operation until 1826. The sawmill continued in the manufacture of long lumber which was supplemented in 1846 by a lath mill.
