Richard Prouty House, Edmunds, Maine

Richard Prouty House, South Edmunds Road, Edmunds, Maine. Mr. Prouty was a poultry farmer, for many years. His farming over the years started with free range and two two-story hen houses with chickens loose in two large pens per floor and ended with a modern long one-story cage house.
Chicken barns, commonly called "hen pens", produced eggs for market. They were sustained by the arrival of low cost feed brought by rail to the Dennysville station. Small hatcheries also provided a ready supply of chicks. The cement foundation remains for this long, building across the road from Dick Prouty's house, while he maintained several smaller hen pens behind his house.
