Thomas Eastman Sr. House, Dennysville, Maine
Thomas Eastman, Sr. married Elizabeth Wilder, daughter of Capt. Theophilus Wilder and sister of Ebenezer C. in 1805. Their home, the birthplace of their ten children, was located here on King Street. Following the pattern of many Dennysville houses, Thomas built the small ell first, adding the main house later. After his death in 1863 he was succeeded in the homestead by his son Isaac, and wives Waitstill Fest (d. 1844) and Mrs. Susan (Stevens) Dennison, with whom he had seven children, and then by his grandson Isaac S. who married Sarah Shaw and Caroline Jones. After three generation of Eastmans, the Burns family became residents of the King Street home. William E. and Sarah Burns had four children, two of whom, Willie and Margaret, never married and continued to live in their parents' home until they died in 1971 and 1977, respectively. Wille received a small abatement on his taxes by keeping a watering trough filled on the side of the road for passing horses. Another daughter, Kathleen (Burns) Hallowell, lived in the homestead until the death of her husband John.
