Store Hill Dennysville, Maine
This building to the right, looking down the hill was originally part of Lyman Gardner's blacksmith shop. Around 1930, Amelda Gardner had an ice cream parlor here. After Fred Johnson sold his business on Store Hill to Ralph J. Higgins, in 1938, he and his wife used the structure for a smaller business, selling candy, ice cream, soft drinks, and other items for a few years. After standing idle a number of years, the building reopened in the late 1950's to serve as youth center under the direction of Hans Schilling, pastor of the Congregational Church, known as "the Shack". Later, the Gardner-Foss Post of the American Legion across the street tore the old shop down to provide space for a parking lot.
