The Lincoln family operated a tannery through much of the nineteenth century, being described in an 1852 inventory as "a tan house, yard, and currying shop." In 1900 the Lincoln tan yard and old tannery were purchased from Sarah Lincoln by the Dennysville Lumber Company, and later by Dead River Timberland Company when they acquired all the mill properties. When the mill business was terminated, the yard and tannery building was sold to the Higgins Brothers. who absorbed the site into their Gulf Oil distributorship.
