Elijah Wilder House, Dennysville, Maine
The large house at the end of The Lane was built by Elijah Wilder on land he purchased from his father Ebenezer C. wilder. He later sold the property to John Kilby who, already having his own home, never lived there himself. After Peter E. Vose married John Kilby's daughter Lydia, in 1847, the young couple made their home there until 1857. The residence was purchased by William Lincoln, father of Dr. Albert Lincoln. Dr. Lincoln and his wife Deborah (Foster) also lived there with his parents for a time after his service as Assistant Surgeon in the 18th Maine Regiment during the Civil War. In 1877 William Lincoln sold the property to Edward Burns for $1,200. At the time of his death, Edward Burns left the house to his son John, and $1,000 to each of his daughters. In addition to his daughters Ida, Ann, and Susan, Mr. Burns also left $1,000 to his daughter Maria, wife of Frank Winter, who used her inheritance to finance her husband's business. John Burns and his wife, Mary (Hallowell) lived on the farm the rest of their lives until they died in 1953 in 1964, respectively. . Peter E. Vose lived in the house when he first came from Robbinston, before buying the house of George Wilder across Harrison Avenue from his father-in-law, John Kilby, in 1848. This house was occupied by William Lincoln in 1860. In 1881 it was the residence of Edward P. Burns after he moved from Edmunds to Dennysville. At the time of his death, Mr. Burns left the property to his son John Burns, and $1000 to each of his daughters, Ida, Ann, and Susan.
