Rocky Gorge on the Dennys River
Photograph
View of the notoriously rocky gorge on the Dennys River just below the site of the lumberman's dam described by John James Audubon on his visit to Dennysville in 1832, in his essay "The Force of the Waters."
This narrow, rocky gorge was the scene of the breaking up of the log drive described by John James Audubon during his visit to Dennysville in the late Summer of 1832, and described in his essay entitled "The Force of the Waters". Salmon fishermen dubbed this section of the Dennys River "Hell's Vestibule".
