Soldier's Monument Vestry Lawn, Dennysville, Maine
As early as 1889 planning meetings were held to consider the erection of a Soldier's Monument. In the fall of 1915 a concrete foundation was made on the lot, which had been leased to the town, in front of the vestry. On December 7 the monument was hauled onto the grounds under the supervision of O.S. Tarbox of the Red Beach Granite Company. The work was completed December 9. The Soldier's Monument was dedicated on August 9, 1916, with Col. E.E. Milliken of Portland as guest speaker. Other participants were Ida (Vose) Woodbury, Julia Gardner, and Edwina Cambridge. Music was furnished by the Machias Band. In addition to local citizens, a number of non-residents, including veterans, were in attendance.
