Steam Locomotive "Lion"
Photograph
Image shows the steam locomotive called the Lion that operated on a narrow gauge railway between Whitney and Machiasport, taken by Edmunds photographer, Edmunds P. Sheahan. This small engine carried lumber from the mills above Machias downhill to discharge at the wharves in Machiasport, through much of the nineteenth century. The steel capped wooden rails are visible in front of the locomotive, which is now on display in the Maine State Museum in Augusta.
