    S.D. Warren Co. House, Home of Kenneth and Evelyn Hodgdon, Dennysville, Maine

    A contemporary photograph of a typical, square mill house built by the S.D. Warren Company for its workers during its lumbering operations in the Dennys River area during 1920's. The house later became the home of Kenneth and Evelyn Hodgdon, on The Lane, in Dennysville, Maine.

    During the 1920's the S.D. Warren Paper Company had woods operations in the area, procuring pulpwood to be shipped by rail to their paper mills for processing. In 1921, the S.D. Warren Paper Company purchased the former J.D. Allan livery stable and the large adjoining field for pasturage for their many horses. A residence was erected on the premises for their workers, which was later occupied by Ken Hodgdon and his wife, and by Estella Wilder. In 1931 he moved his garage and repair business from the Bunker Hill Road in Edmunds into John Allan's old livery stable, advertising "Expert Auto Repairs: Overhauling our Specialty, All Work Guaranteed!" and became a Studebaker dealer. The large livery stable collapsed under the weight of snow in the 1970s. Ron and Diane Quigley later purchased the property.
