T.W. Allan's Mill Seat on the Dennys River

The Mill Seat Pool on the Dennys River is situated where the former T.W. Allan and Son sawmill stood beside the Milwaukee Road in Dennysville, Maine, in the nineteenth century. Maps of Dennysville in 1861 and 1881 identify several sites of T.W. Allan's lumbering operations. Sunken logs and a quiet flow are mute witness to the activity that once happened here.
The Milwaukee Mill, a gang mill, was built by Mariner A. Wilder and Solomon M. Foster, and named by Elijah A. Wilder who had recently visited the city of that name in the Midwest. Later, while it was the property of John and Theophilus W. Allan, the mill was destroyed by fire. After the Saxby Gale in 1869, the Lincolns rebuilt the mill and operated it for five years. In 1917 Mr. Evans of Bangor set up a portable mill on the Milwaukee Road.
