Aunty's Canning Jar
Object/Artifact
Glass jar used for packing blueberries and other canned goods at the canning factory in Marion, Maine in 1920's and 1930's.
Aunty's Sweetened Blueberries once operated a canning factory in Marion where workers picked over the blueberries by hand, cooked them in open kettles, and ladled them into glass jars that were sealed by machine. They were transported by train to markets in Boston and elsewhere. Operating in the 1920's and 30's the factory employed fifty or more workers during the canning season.
