Dugald C. McLauchlan House, Dennysville, Maine
Dugald C. McLauchlin, the village shoemaker, was born in Scotland, and established his shop on the Dennys River next to Gardner's store. He had come to Dennysville about 1824, and in 1825 married Lydia Wilder, daughter of Zenas and Hannah (Clark) Wilder. They built a house on King Street where they raised eleven children. Dugald kept buying small sections from the Lincolns until he owned the land where the railroad track was eventually laid. His son, George, married Elizabeth M. Hobart, daughter of Isaac Jr. and Abigail (Jones) Hobart. Of their three children, only their son, George Hobart McLauchlin, survived infancy. In 1890, George H. married Abbie Stoddard and continued to reside in the family homestead where their four sons were born. About 1900 the George H. McLauchlin family moved to Machias. Mrs. Elizabeth (Hobart) McLauchlin continued to live in her home, except for spending winters with her son and his family in Machias until her death in 1912.
