Context

This long set of rips is named after Charlie Sylvia, a long-time Salmon Club president and officer. He lived on the Edmunds side of the river and would walk down through the woods to fish these rips. Ray Robinson notes: "This pool is the most heavily fished on the River and many fish are caught here."

Charlie's Rips on the Dennys River; A favorite spot for fishermen are the rips seen upstream, named for Charlie Sylvia who often walked across the fields from the home on Harrison Road to fish here. Logs seen in the river banks testify to the lumber drives that sustained the economy of the area for nearly one hundred and fifty years.
