Ebenezer Gardner Home, Dennysville, Maine
Ebenezer Gardner came to Dennysville in 1832 with his brother, Aaron Leeman Raymond (A.L.R.) in 1832. They were both blacksmiths. Ebenezer married Hannah, daughter of Ebenezer C. Wilder, and built a house in the 1830's on the Lane opposite her parents' hotel, and beside the home of her sister Elizabeth (Wilder) Foster. The house was inherited by their son Lyman and his wife Mary (Hobart), and was later sold to Fred G. Johnson Sr. Ebenezer was succeeded in business by his son, Lyman, about whom it was written in the June 16, 1897 Eastport Sentinel, "Mr. Lyman K. Gardner of this village has 'Peter Wright' steel-faced anvil, weighing 100 lbs, which was used by his father, the late Ebenezer Gardner in Calais 65 years ago. It passed through the fire when the old blacksmith shop was burned in this village fifty years ago." In later years, Ebenezer and Hannah Gardner's house was owned and occupied by Earle R. and Ethel (Johnson) Higgins, and more recently, by Harry and Judy (Morrison) Lingley and their twin daughters.
