The Cathance District Schoolhouse was located toward the top of the hill on the left on the County Road, now Route 86, in Edmunds, Maine. One of six district schools in Edmunds, by 1936 it had closed, and students were eventually sent to the consolidated school built on the Harrison Road in 1952.
The Cathance District School was located on the hill just past Robins' Cottages. In 1850, 23 pupils were registered, at an annual cost to the town of $31.92. In 1889, the teacher was Alice Carter. In 1926, Florence Jamieson was the teacher, receiving an average salary of $450 a year.
