John Smith House, Marion, Maine
Photograph
John Smith House, beside the Cathance Stream mill site in Marion. Captain Smith built this house beside the Cathance Stream after leaving the tavern he had operated on Meetinghouse Hill in Dennysville around 1840. The house originally had an ell on the back connected to a large barn.
After selling his tavern on the corner of King Street and Meetinghouse Hill in Dennysville, Captain John Smith moved to this location beside the Cathance Stream in Marion, where the Kilby and Smith Sawmill was operating in 1861. By 1881 the house was occupied by I.P. Smith, and, by the later twentieth century had passed into the hands of the Edwards family.
