Marshall House, Route 86, Edmunds, Maine
This small white lumbering-era house was the home of Frank and Millie Marshall in the mid-20th century. Frank "Bun" Marshall lived near Robinson Cottages and guided parties of hunters and fishermen on the Dennys River for years. He was the caretaker of "Red" Anderson's camp on the Narrows, where he loved to fish. Ray Robinson recalled, "For many years Bunny had been afflicted with arthritis, and his hands were terribly deformed, and he was barely able to grasp the rod. It must have been painful to hold the rod with those gnarled fingers. Bunny made several false casts, and finally dropped the fly on the water, but this side of the salmon. The fly wasn't riding right, so, it was suggested by onlookers that it needed some dry fly oil. After this chore was taken care of. Bunny made several more false casts and dropped the fly lightly on the water. The water exploded and a beautiful, bright salmon jumped into the air. The salmon raced around the pool, jumped six or seven times. and proceeded to give a spectacular battle. With a couple of boys supporting Bunny, and plenty of advice from the onlookers, the salmon grudgingly gave ground. After a ten-minute battle Bun brought the salmon in close and the fish was gaffed. It was a beautiful 12 lb. silver-sided salmon with sea lice still attached. The cheering that erupted from the crowd was deafening. . . . Bunny raised his head and looked at the boys and said, 'Boys, this is the best day I have had for a long time and I thank you.' Not bad for an old gent of seventy-nine."
