Lower Dennysville School Students
Rebecca W. Hobart writes in her history of Dennysville and Edmunds, "Since there was a schoolhouse just over the line in Pembroke, it seems probable that the Tide Mill District School was built just after the separation of the two towns to accommodate the pupils who had been attending school which was then located in what had become another town. . . Although the exact date and location is unknown, a schoolhouse was erected in the lower part of town, the Tide Mill District, early in the 19th century. The later building, which was located a the intersection of the Shipyard Road and Route One, was erected in 1874. This structure housed classes until 1945, at which time it was closed, the pupils thereafter attending the town school. At a special meeting held on October 2, 1946, it was voted to accept the Legion's offer of $350 for the land and building."
