    Edwin Gardner House, Dennysville, Maine

    Views of the Edwin Gardner House, Water Street, Dennysville, Maine. In 1861 the house was the residence of Daniel K. Hobart, who operated a drug store about 100 feet downstream on the Dennys River. In 1881 the house was occupied by W.J. Ennis, and later became the home of Edwin "Ned" Gardner.

    After their father's death in 1891, Edwin "Ned" R. Gardner and his brother, Fred, moved their mother's residence from its original location on King Street, across the fields to the driveway across from his brother, Fred, and just above his own house, on Water Street. Prior to Ned Gardner's purchase of the property in 1884, it had been occupied by Charles Eastman, Daniel K. Hobart, and William J. Ennis. After the death of Edwin Gardner in 1918, and his wife, Ada (Allan) in 1924, the family home was occupied by their bachelor son, Maxwell Gardner, until he died in 1966. In 1972, the property was sold to Harold and Joanne Scott for whom it was a summer residence. It has subsequently been transformed into a home bakery.
