Albert and Mary Mahar House, Water Street, Dennysville, Maine. Albert was the Dennysville Postmaster for over sixty years. Mary taught school in Dennysville and later in Edmunds. In retirement she was often found shelling peas or talking to customers at the Post Office.
Albert Mahar, who served as Postmaster, and his wife Mary, a schoolteacher, built their house across the road from the Dennysville Post Office in 1951. Albert, who had begun a career in teaching in the early 1930s, joined the postal service in 1935, which continued in his overseas military service during the Second World War in the Postmaster General's Corps, through his return home to Dennysville. He continued in this capacity until his retirement in 1998. In retirement, Mary could often be found at the post office, shelling peas and talking with customers.
