SUMMARY:Summer Outing: Wildflower Walk\, August 20\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:The final DRHS summer outing\, a Wildflower Walk along the Dennys River\, will take place on Wednesday\, August 20th\, 2025.  Led by Kris and Allison Paprocki\, the tour will begin at the Lincoln Library in Dennysville at 9 a.m. and will proceed to explore sites along the Dennys River where we will identify plants and wildflowers found along the banks. Everyone one is welcome at this free event\, and participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch which we will share together at the conclusion of the tour.  For more information\, please call 726-3905. \nNative plants of interest that we should see on the walk include: \n\nFringed yellow-loosestrife\nVirgin’s-bower\nCommon ground-nut\n\nKris and Allison Paprocki both teach at local schools. They are 2022 graduates of the Maine Master Naturalist program and have led events for the Downeast Coastal Conservancy\, Porter Memorial Library\, the Lubec Garden Club\, and the Cobscook Institute. \nThe Maine Master Naturalist Program is an all-volunteer organization which aims to educate and interest the public in Maine’s natural landscape. During the 10-month course\, students learn about local flora\, fauna\, geology\, ecological systems\, and more. After completing the course\, students are expected to share their knowledge by leading nature programs as volunteers. [From the MMN website]: “Since its founding in 2011\, MMNP has trained almost 250 Maine Master Naturalists\, who have gone on to volunteer more than 10\,000 hours of nature education in Maine.”
